John is largely self-taught, having initially studied drawing, painting, and architecture at school. He has further developed these skills through various short courses, covering topics from life drawing to perspective and composition.
John's artwork reflects his interests as well as his scientific career, showcasing meticulous attention to line, composition, balance, and the nuances of everyday life.
John's style is characterised by simplicity, a vibrant palette, and a cloisonnist approach to line. His preferred medium is gouache, and he predominantly captures landscapes and townscapes of Cornwall and Brittany.
Over the past 25 years, John has created several hundred artworks.
